One thing there definitely isn’t a shortage of at Sugar beach is a place to enjoy great food. Mon Plaisir Restaurant features live cooking buffets featuring a variety of themed dinners. Tides Restaurant is a seafood lover’s delight, with an elaborate crustacean and seafood counter centrepiece that appears to float on illuminated ice. If it’s Mediterranean you’re in the mood for visit Citronella’s Café for wood-fired pizzas and a delicious Italian-inspired menu. You can also visit the neighbouring resort’s Paul & Virginie Restaurant for a more romantic and intimate evening. For a drink or light meal there’s a lot of bars to choose from. Starting with Tides Bar by the pool with its comprehensive selection of beverages, including fine teas and locally-produced rum cocktails. Mon Plaisir Bar is ideal for a quiet drink or pre-dinner aperitif. Sports Bar is the perfect place to watch international sport on the large flat screen TV. Citronella’s Bar serves aperitifs on the outdoor deck before lunch and dinner are served. Lastly the Beach Trolley Bar provides refreshments and light snacks to guests on the beach throughout the day.

Claimed by the Dutch in the year 1598, and occupied by the French between 1715 and 1810, Mauritius was ruled by Great Britain from 1814 after the Treaty of Paris. The island gained independence from Britain in 1968 and became a Republic in 1992.




Due to its multicultural diversity, Mauritius boasts a number of spoken languages. The majority of the population is bilingual, fluent in both English and French. Creole and French are the main languages of the island.




Diverse ethnic groups make up the population of Mauritius. Immigrants, originally from Africa, India, France, Great Britain and China brought along their cultures, languages, values and traditions when they settled on the island. The various ethnicities live alongside one another making Mauritius a harmonious multicultural nation.




The island is blessed with a tropical climate. Summer is from November to May, during this period the temperature varies between 22 °C and 35 °C. Winter is from May to November with a temperature variance between 17 °C and 26 °C. The sea temperature varies between 22 °C and 26 °C.
