Why we like it

After a long flight, it is quite nice to have just a 15-minutes transfer to finally reach your holiday destination. Le Peninsula Bay Beach Resort & Spa…….! Close to the airport, and within the neighbourhood of Mahébourg, a pretty village, preserved and relaxed, ideal for strolling to discover its market with colourful stalls, the Naval Museum and its typical streets. From the hotel , it’s only a short walk to Pointe d’Esny, for lovers of kite surf and windsurf, Henri Rault’s manioc biscuit factory, La Vanille Réserve des Mascareignes, with its giant tortoises, and many other interesting places to visit.

You will certainly discover the Blue Bay lagoon, which literally surrounds Le Peninsula Bay, where you can snorkle, dive or take a boat to tour round the island. You can also admire its unique and fabulous coral garden, with over 50 different species. Not to mention the marine fauna, which is a feast for the eyes: parrot fish, damselfish, sergeant majors, and many others can be spotted in the crystal-clear water of our lagoon.At our facilities you will find: a shop, free wi-fi, a conference room for 60 people, and different services: baby-sitting, exchange office, car rental, tours reservation, laundry. Beach towels are provided.

In between the garden and the lagoon, our cute Kids Club welcomes children from 3 to 11. All-year-round, our English & French experienced organisers, will lead children through sports or games, and at times to even participate in kids evening shows . They can only love it.

HISTORY

Claimed by the Dutch in the year 1598, and occupied by the French between 1715 and 1810, Mauritius was ruled by Great Britain from 1814 after the Treaty of Paris. The island gained independence from Britain in 1968 and became a Republic in 1992.

 

 

LANGUAGE

Due to its multicultural diversity, Mauritius boasts a number of spoken languages. The majority of the population is bilingual, fluent in both English and French. Creole and French are the main languages of the island.

 

 

CULTURE

Diverse ethnic groups make up the population of Mauritius. Immigrants, originally from Africa, India, France, Great Britain and China brought along their cultures, languages, values and traditions when they settled on the island. The various ethnicities live alongside one another making Mauritius a harmonious multicultural nation.

 

 

CLIMATE

The island is blessed with a tropical climate. Summer is from November to May, during this period the temperature varies between 22 °C and 35 °C. Winter is from May to November with a temperature variance between 17 °C and 26 °C. The sea temperature varies between 22 °C and 26 °C.

 

 

BANKING HOURS

Monday to Thursday: 9.15 am – 3.15 pm, Friday: 9.15 am -3.30 pm, Saturday: 9.15 am -11.15 am. Banks are also open to coincide with the arrival and departure of international flights at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport.

 

 

ECONOMY

The Mauritian economy is based on four sectors: Textile, Tourism, Sugar and Services – with tourism the largest sector.
